As a follow up to my last post, here is a continued look at what God is ready to do for us as we seek Him. This article was written a few years ago for a newsletter we were publishing monthly through our ministry. (PrayerNet Ministries) Rev. Bob Martin was one of our Core Group Leaders, and we cherished his advise, wisdom and support for many years before his passing. Absorb his insight with what he put to pen here. This surly goes along with what I posted a few days ago, and confirms that we can trust God in these troubling times.
God's Own Prayer Of Blessing
By Rev. Bob Martin

God speaks to us often, in mysterious ways, places and situations. Recently, I was on an airplane; it was a long flight. Feeling like I needed a special touch of God's strength in my physical body, and perhaps a word from the Lord, I was just relaxing and turning my spirit and mind towards the Lord. Many times God gives me scriptures as special promises and directives, and also "songs and hymns and spiritual songs," especially some of the older, often obscure ones.
A song began to rise in my heart - with the rich words that began - "The Lord Bless You and Keep You"... It seemed to grow stronger, richer and more powerful as the airplane droned on through the night, until my whole spirit, soul and body was saturated with a sound like a mighty choir and pipe organ performing the music over and over and over again! By then, I knew the Lord was pouring a message of Faith, Hope, Love, Blessing and Comfort into my seeking heart. This song and the scripture back of it will always be precious to me, so I would like to share it so it can bless you also.
In Numbers, chapter 6, verses 22 thru 27 we have this short, powerful prayer of Blessing. God gave it to Moses for Aaron and his sons, to bless the people of God. It is a timeless and universal blessing prayer, that God's people have used, are using and will continue to use, because it is God's Word and it works. People, stay in the Word, feed on it, pray it, because there is Life and Power in God's Word forever!
Since we are also called God's Priests (see Revelation 1:6, where it says Jesus Christ "has made us kings and priests unto God and his Father") we too can bless the people of God, ourselves and families with the promises and prayers and blessing in God's Word.
Numbers 6:22 - 27 (New K.J.V.)
22) And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:
23) Speak to Aaron and his sons, saying, "This is the way you shall bless the Children of Israel" say to them:
24) "The Lord bless you and keep you."
25) "The Lord make His face to shine upon you."
26) "The Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace."
27) "So they shall put My Name on the Children of Israel, and I will bless them."
God had been speaking to Moses. Now thank God, Moses was seeking to hear from the Lord, or he might have missed it altogether, as sometimes happens to all of us.
Throughout Numbers chapter 6, God had been describing the vow of the Nazirite, one who was totally consecrated, Holy and Righteous before the Lord. Before God can really and truly work on our lives, we need to have a spiritual house cleaning, from time to time. The Blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin, as we spread our need and wants before Father God in repentance. He will never turn us away, thank God!
Moses was told to "speak to Aaron and to his sons." We today have a special obligation to pass on to the next generations the mighty things God has placed in our care. What a privilege! What holy responsibility! God will help us do it, as we lean on His Strength and Wisdom. God said, "This is the way to bless My people." God's way is the right way, the best way, and yes, the only way to receive God's Blessings. So many times we try to do things in our own strength and wisdom, and wonder why we fail.
"The Lord Bless You."
Oh, to have the rich blessing made by God Himself! Ephesians 1:3 declares that the Father has already "blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ." Let's begin to enter into God's promises given in the Word, and appropriate them more fully through prayer and praise continually.
"And Keep You."
The keeping power of God is more powerful than anyone can imagine! Read about it in Psalms 1, 23, 27, 46, 91, 121 and 127. Jude verse 24 says He is "able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of His Glory with exceeding joy." Paul also testified that "He is able to keep that which I committed unto Him against that day." Trust God's keeping power. (John 14 - 17)
"The Lord Make His Face To Shine Upon You."
("and enlighten you," Amplified Translation) "God is Light," and He wants to shine forth into those dark areas of our lives. Let Him do it.
"And Be Gracious Unto You."
("kind, merciful and giving favor to you," Amplified Translation) God's unmerited favor is what every human being needs, in order to become mature, righteous and holy in Christ Jesus.
"The Lord Lift Up His (Approving) Countenance Upon You."
Let us walk worthy of the Lord, not as the "Gentile World" does. God desires to look with approval on all His children. He lovingly guides and corrects. Let's yield to His Fatherly training and discipline. His way is best, for it is built on God's Love, Power and Wisdom.
"And Give You Peace."
(Tranquility of heart and life continually," Amplified Translation) The God of Peace brings the Peace of God that passes all understanding. It has nothing to do with our earthly situations. We can have absolute peace in the midst of chaos. Jesus promised, "My peace I leave with you." You can minister God's peace to others and even to yourself. Try it!
"And They Shall Put My Name Upon The Israelites."
"The Name of the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous run into it and are safe," David said in the Psalms. Use the Name of Jesus often, in Faith, Hope and Love. It is our key of Power and Authority to use the precious promises of God's Word.
"And I Will Bless Them."
God blesses as we bless. What a mystery, what a privilege! As I close this article, my prayer for you is..."The Lord Bless you and keep you!" Amen
