Sent to Heal

Let’s use Luke Chapter 10:1-12 to see what footsteps we should follow in to carry out God’s proclamation on healing. Jesus was calling the church, the immediate people where He was to go forth and heal in His name. He chose 70 and directed them to reap a harvest. Just like then, the harvest is ripe today and He is calling you and I to go forth. Same instructions He gave then, He gives now. There seemed to be a much greater urgency then than most of us feel today. He said He was sending them into very hostile circumstances. He was emphatic, carry no money, no backpack full of personal gear. Matter of fact, He said do not even stop to chat with anyone along the way.

He was sending them into a hard place but said to declare peace wherever they went. Probably not a fun message in today’s world. He said to stay where I send you, and don’t wander around on your own. Does it sound like God has a particular place for you to touch lives? Find it and stay there until you are released to move on. He said to heal the sick where I plant you. Tell them “The Kingdom of God has come near to you.” The Holy Spirit is waiting to work through us. He wants to show the Kings power and presence through the ministry of healing and miracles. Healing and miracles go hand in hand, they cannot be separated. Jesus was speaking to the local church in taking responsibility for activating the miracle working power of God’s Kingdom. In James, He even went so far as to say that those that hear the message and turn the other way will face judgement and destruction. Sounds like a last day harvest time to me.

Jesus was saying that as you are sent into the harvest you represent Him. When you are rejected, He is rejected. When you are accepted, He is accepted. Today you are charged with speaking His Name into other lives. What an awesome responsibility we have as believers. We are to speak in His name because it has power and authority. We have the power to bring the defeat of Satan and his hold over downward spiraling men and women. God expects no less of us as He equips us for a last day charge into a chaotic place. The enemy is strong, but God has given the church greater power.

In Luke 10:19 He said, “Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” When He said this the 70 that were sent out had just returned. Their report was that even demons had been subject to His Name. The same applies today my friends. Take the power and authority He has given you and apply it to your daily encounters.

His healing power is available today. Jesus is not the “Great I was,” He is the “Great I am.” He said that as we believe in Him the works that we do would be greater than those He did. Not because of us but because He went to the Father on our behalf. It is because we glorify Him in the process that we can activate the power of healing and miracles. The Father shares with us the gift of healing to do what we cannot do on our own. Reach out today where He has planted you. Reap a harvest. Bring back to Him the good report of victory. It has nothing to do with us and everything to do with Him. Our reward is not here, but, yet to come.

Have a great day.
